Transparency and Accountability
Transparency and accountability are
essential ethical components when using big data. Businesses should be honest
and upfront about the information they collect and how they use it. They should
also accept accountability for any unfavorable effects of using big data and take
steps to minimize them.
Informed Consent
Informed consent is yet another
important ethical consideration when using Big Data. Individuals
whose data is gathered must be aware of how it will be used. It is necessary to
obtain their express and informed consent.
Algorithmic Profiling
Big data offers new, increasingly accurate social sorting methods. Much may be learned by combining different types of data sets. This is referred to as "algorithmic profiling" and it raises questions about how little people realize about how personal data is gathered as they browse, interact, purchase, visit websites, travel, and so forth.Data bias may contribute to injustice
and discrimination in machine learning. Data bias arises when an information set
is inaccurate and does not represent the population as a whole. It can
provide skewed results and biased responses which can lead to inequality.
